Frequently asked questions.
What is fluid art and acrylic pour painting?
Adding a liquid to acrylic paint can make it fluid and pourable. Interesting compositions are achieved by varying the fluidity of the paint, the pigments within the paint, the type of liquid media and the use of additives.
What kind of paint and medium do you use?
I use a variety of brands of paint: Amsterdam, Golden, Liquitex, Pebeo, DecoArt, Arteza, ColorArte, Art Alchemy and TriArt. Different types of media help generate specific results; my preferred ones are Golden Color Pouring medium, Golden GAC800, Liquitex Pouring medium, Floetrol, TriArt Polymer medium, TriArt Liquid Glass and TriArt Hard Top.
What kind of canvas do you use?
I never paint on canvas! Out of personal preference, I use cradled wood panels, bamboo panels and aluminum boards.
Do you do commissioned work?
Yes. You can choose the size and colours of the piece. I will provide mock-ups to choose style and overall composition; however, there is inherent randomness to acrylic paint pouring and I only have partial control over the end result.
Do you have an alternate day job?
Yes - that’s why I paint! Art provides a stress release from my scientific career.
